About us

Our story

The Uffington Players were formed in 1977 by a group of residents who wanted to enjoy some amateur drama and raise money for the newly opened village hall, the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall. In those days, the group would beg or borrow scenery, curtains, props, costumes and equipment to stage a show.

A lot has changed since then. The Players now own a large amount of lighting and sound equipment, stage fixtures and fittings, and a costume collection that has outgrown its original store. In 2010 a permanent stage extension was added to the hall, and we make good use of it.

We have staged many pantomimes, as well as music hall, murder mysteries, drama and farce. Every show draws on the talents, enthusiasm and ideas of its cast and crew, and many of our youngsters have grown up with the group.

Today our company brings together professional writers, sound and lighting technicians, professional and retired actors and dance teachers, alongside enthusiasts who simply love good-quality amateur drama. Together, we aim to put on shows the whole village can be proud of.
